They did something like this in Ireland years ago for those on long-term benefits and gave people menial tasks to do that not even the local council would bother with. It was a case of getting those locally to carry out the work, but it depends on the area.Originally posted by OwlHoot View PostIt's a good idea if it targets unemployed school leavers, to get them into the habit of working.
Also, it should involve jobs that might not otherwise get done, like collecting rubbish off beaches and pruning canal tow paths. But the snag with all that is the expense of getting people to where the work needs doing, unless you accomodate them nearby in tents or something.Comment

Let me explain. The other night we seemed to "team up" against MF. He then posted "reach arounds all round boys". Tonight it appears MF and I are teaming up, hence the post. I also called myself a hussy. KUATB old boyOriginally posted by RichardCranium View Post

When I was at college, that was the Youth Opportunity Scheme (I think).Originally posted by OwlHoot View PostIt's a good idea if it targets unemployed school leavers, to get them into the habit of working.
It got lots of flak because it involved such things as counting lamp posts. I was working on a Playscheme during the summer holidays and we had one or two YOS people posted to us. They only turned up on the day their inspector came, then cleared off once they'd been checked up on.
However... since then I have met a bunch of people who got into IT because of the YOS, and had it explained to me by a Highways Engineer what they had the YOS kids doing when recording / auditing lamp post positions and serial numbers.
So, that's not such a bad idea.
And going straight from college to the scrap heap is hardly a great start to one's working life. Having the choice of finding work or undertaking socially-beneficial activities sounds like a good idea. However, it is a very socialist philosophy so I suppose many people on here would be opposed to it on principle. My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.Comment

SY. Is this one of your 'everyone PM's me and I'm very popular' themes?Originally posted by suityou01 View PostStop frakin PM'ing me then
Everyone knows that Admin only allows you one PM a day due to your sockie abuse of the system some months ago.
Sad.
