Am I missing something here? The new limit is 400 quid a week, or 1700 a month, or 20,000 a year. That sounds an awful lot of tax-free dosh.

The other bit you're missing is that the Coalition are going to set an OVERALL benefit cap for any family at £500 per week. So even if they could get £400 per week - depending on the size of their house, they would have just £100 to spend on anything else they need to survive. That isn't really much when you have 2 adults and 3 or more kids to feed, cloth, keep warm, provide electricity, etc, etc.

I'm all for "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" but christ on his bastard bike I do not see for the life of me why someone who doesn't work can have a better lifestyle than me when I have to get up before it's bastard light in the morning to traipse down half the flaming country to find a decent job and those feckless bastards won't.
