But since we're discussing gravity, probably the physical definition of weight should be used. In newtons, a unit of force, yes. But a person's weight in kg (or pounds) as is usually specified is the same on the moon and earth, because kilograms and pounds are a unit of mass. Pounds were always a measure of mass, as I believe all English weights were. Confusion abounds though, I see that the Wiki on grains (of which many or all of our weights derive) it's described as a unit of mass, but in the same sentence it says it is 'lighter' than a troy grainOriginally posted by d000hg View PostBut since we're discussing gravity, probably the physical definition of weight should be used. The grain is the only unit of mass measure common to the three traditional English mass and weight systems (avoirdupois, Apothecaries', troy); the obsolete Tower grain was lighter than the troy grain.

Give me an example that shows any benefit to increasing the worlds population several fold.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment
