You can carry a Swiss Army knife as long as you don't carry it for the purpose of harming others. But ironically, as Victorinox and Wenger have finally given in to pressure from customers and introduced Swiss Army knives with a blade lock, which is much safer for the user, the UK has banned those.
He's better off just letting the FA sort out the bad tackles. Blade locks on Swiss Army knives are a bit OTT.

I dont remember saying he was a nice bloke. I do remember saying he might even be a drug dealer.

what do they call it when you invent a quote and then attack it ?

Even if he's not a nice bloke, even if he's a drug dealer, does he not have the right to defend himself somehow? Not necessarily with a knife; we've been over that, but I don't see how 'being a nasty individual' affects his right to self defence.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

Didn't you say he was your daughter's friend? From that it sounded like you were vouching for him not being a violent idiot.

            Absolutely.
In fact a little bit of hand to hand combat now and then is de rigeur in Bootle. Its the effect on the family and the first offence aspect plus the so called zero tolerance thats bothered me.

I mean, hands up all those here who have ever carried a knife or similar for self defence

A taxi is quite a good means of self defence. Close the door and drive away. If they're in the car, open the door, grab the keys and run away.

See the problem the police have is that they are not the Judiciary, nor are they the ones who decide on whether or not to prosecute. They are simply the upholders of the law. As someone stated, it is an offensive weapon. It is for the courts to decide whether or not he had it for legitimate reasons.

The Police are meant to remain objective.

Don't forget, he could so easy have turned out to be another Worboys

On a personal note, he's an idiot for keeping a bladed weapon for self defence. Baseball, glove and bat in the boot with some sports kit is easily explainable. Swap Baseball for cricket gear seeing how it's Engurlund.

Maglite under the drivers seat for easy access. Job done.
