In permie world before I went contracting I had a little ebay thing going with old motor racing memorabilia that just sort of developed as a sideline. In the third year I had a turnover of about £20K with about 45% profit. It was mainly photos and posters and was rather enjoyable.
On the buying front it's good for hard to find things and second hand items that sell at silly discounts over new. I got a very nice second hand Dawes Galaxy bike for £200 and various bits of hi-fi like a Marantz amp which was £2600 new for £400.
There's a fair bit of tat too. Just check the seller's rating and number of items sold. Any rating below 95% and I would avoid.
