    Turnover. Profit averages about 25%

It's a numbers game. I've been working on automating Excel to bulk load into Ebay as opposed to using their tulip turbo lister, so I can advertise more.

Surely the greater the number of items the greater the packaging overhead (in terms of time). Is it not better to have fewer, either larger or higher value, items?

I've bought quite a few bits and pieces on ebay, but can't be arsed to sell anything. It's too much hassle to pack it all up and take it to the post office.

Any junk I want to get rid off goes on Freecycle as they come and collect it themselves.

You're either well off or lazy.

The wife sold a pair of my old jeans a few weeks back, I'd kept them for when I lost a few pounds, no faith that woman.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

              They're not exclusive.

Correct. I have a business model and agreement from a major wholesaler to advertise over £1M worth of stock. At an expected return of 3-5% per month the logistics is horrendous, coupled with a 20% margin it seems like a lot of effort to make the same or less than contracting.

Saying that though for others what a fantastic business

I've put stuff on Freecycle, nice to have things go somewhere rather than be thrown out. We even freecycled a (working) car once.

For someone who doesn't have a valuable profession, absolutely. To many, the idea of making even £20k a year is a dream that eBay can make a reality.

I had a plan B based around eBay but I am not sure I can be bothered, it'd be really dull to do.

As well as selling you guys out, I am also the lead singer of a covers band. We buy and sell all of our PA system, radio mics, in ear monitors, lights etc etc on ebay - For me the beauty is that to some degree there are insurances in place, so the potential for loss is less than dealing with free-ads etc, but obviously more than dealing face to face. The risk is outweighed by the discount on the stuff we buy though - 2kw PA system - normally about £2500 - total cost, £780......
