I personally wouldn't burn any book.
Well. I wouldn't burn any of mine, but I'm quite happy to burn yours.

What happens to old (but not old enough to be in a collection) Korans / Bibles / Toras anyway, are they being recycled ?

          10/10 for spotting that.

You contradict yourself. On the one hand you say burning flags is reasonable implying it's wrong to burn the Quran and in the very next paragraph you don't want the pastor to back down.

Obama knows only too well the implications of such a ludicrous action. And he's being responsible in speaking out as any sane minded leader would do. The adverse fallout being, having a profound effect on the psyche of the average Afghan given this is where the campaign for 'hearts and minds' is concentrated.

Old Korans are burnt; the muslim sitting opposite me at lunch said that's the correct way to dispose of an old, damaged koran. However, she said they're rarely destroyed; many families own an old koran that's passed down through generations and is a family heirloom. Old handwritten korans are very collectible and can fetch huge sums of money; still, families keep hold of them even through poverty. A bit like grandad's war medals; they might be worth something, but even if you're really struggling, you're probably quite hesitant to sell them.

Don't know about bibles and torahs.

Old Bibles are imported into Iran so that they can be burned by Mad Mullahs.

Old copies of the Koran are imported into Sh!tsville, Arkansas so that the Mad Christians can burn them.

The Jews are too tight to part with anything so old copies of the Torah are sold from Jew to Jew, Torah Futures it's called.

Anybody out there that I haven't offended, yet?

The labels are stripped off and they're given to people who only have Betamax machines so that they may be tormented for the rest of their lives wondering just what is on the tapes.
