Then we had Labour, who spent profligately and destroyed the economy and have allowed unlimited numbers of Eastern Europeans in who have now monopolised the menial jobs market.
So where are these jobs that these people are meant to go to?
The UK economy cake is now far too small to sustain a population of 65 million. That is the real issue.
That's a fair summary of the problem. There was a lot of manufacturing which didn't suffer from union problems, and it was very profitable too.

Raising tax thresholds was a great idea and should probably be extended. Taking low paid people's money and then giving it back to them while incurring a huge admin bill to be picked up by others is about as insane as government policy gets.

We need practical methods and incentives but we need to get much tougher on those who persistly fail to do what they reasonably can do to support themselves . Karl Marx said "from each according to his abiity" so that is the one thing that left and right should agree on.

No great fan of Thatcher but saying she destroyed manufacturing in the UK is a bit absurd. In what way? She stopped pouring public money into unprofitable companies like British Leyland and quite rightly. Improving company performance is not a government responsibility (and as we all know they would be crap at it if they tried). There may be a case for short term protection or subsidy during restructuring but the unions were led by those with a lefist political agenda and clearly had no intention of cooperating on that.

Think the unions need tackling again. The very well paid Bob Crow and the like are clearly driven by the same malignant leftist agenda. There is no justification in either left or right ideology for a group of totally unecessary workers being paid 40+ grand to open and close doors or for low productivity public sector workers getting gauranteed pay rises and pensions while lower paid workers foot much of the bill.

Legalize drugs, tax them to high heaven, and get most of the money back.

No it's not, because that statement is not true, as I explained earlier.
