That's what the "Forum" button did. Here's the vB code:

    Code:
    <a class="navtab" href="{vb:raw vboptions.forumhome}.php{vb:raw session.sessionurl_q}">{vb:rawphrase forum}</a>
    which generates:

    Code:
    <a href="http://forums.contractoruk.com/" class="navtab">Forum</a>
which is the same URL as the logo and the house.

EDIT: I just tested it over on the dev server with an unmodified theme, and the "Forum" button takes me back to the home page, not the forum I was on before going to PMs.

Mind you, I also used it to get to the home page on the old forum.

The pseudo-tab-bar was introduced by vB because their full package includes blogs and a bunch of other junk. As that isn't used here, and the tabs didn't actually function as tabs, I figured it made more sense to move the user stuff down there where people could easily find it and put the style switcher (which won't be used much and doesn't need to be right in people's faces) in its place. There was one additional reason for that: as and when there's a stripped-down theme specifically for mobile devices with small screens, the style switcher is very close to the top of the page, which means that somebody logging in on their phone will be able to quickly switch to the mobile theme without having to scroll through a load of stuff that they can't see very well anyway. The default style switcher was a drop-down menu at the very bottom of the page, which is the worst possible place for it to be in such a scenario.
I know Fitts's Law but it may be time for a re-think of it (given the increasing experience of users with various interfaces). I thought I knew what that logo would do (take me to the home page of CUK) and it wasn't what I wanted so I didn't use it. It's not a problem, it's a cognitive psychology issue.

Exactly what I said, now stop pissing about with it based on how you want it to behave and put it back the way it was.

It isn't possible to see what the PM page was like on the old forum via the Wayback Machine, but a look at a members list page (from a day when I had 106 posts ) shows that the link back to the homepage on the breadcrumb trail was much more prominent than just a little picture of a house. I'll see about improving the new breadcrumb trail to make it easier to get back

That button didn't take you back to General or wherever, it took you back to the home page, exactly the same as the other two links.

I wasn't talking about the house button.

You obviously didn't read what I posted.

You're changing things on a whim and not thinking things through.

Why can't I get back to the part of the forum I was previously in before looking at my PMs?

I'll tell you why, because you decided you didn't like that feature. Your arrogance is astounding.

It didn't do that before the latest update (or at least I don't think it did). The forum button took you back to the top level of the forum.

I have to say I was able to navigate back. Now not sure if it was mentally ingrained that I was going Forum, then General, or it went back to General. But the first thing I did this morning was to attempt to navigate back and failed to do so.

You wouldnt notice the house. In IE6 there are so many loose icons floating about I don't fancy touching any. For me to get back to the main site I clicked on the Logo, now that takes me back to the Forums.

I hate to agree with Spod at the best time, but changes are just made on a whim because the developer thinks he always knows best, followed up with the bedside manner of Harold Shipman when questioned.
What happens in General, stays in General.

I think the option was what Nick refers to as the "breadcrumb" trail.

-> Forum -> Social -> General -> Oi Nick!!! -> Reply to Thread

I read what you said. I went and tested it, several times, in various ways, on various browsers, including IE6. The "Forum" button never, ever had any functionality that took you back to where you had been previously, it only ever took you to the home page.

EDIT: and, just for you, I just went and tested it on vBulletin.com's forums: if this functionality exists and works anywhere, it should work there, right? But it doesn't exist: the "Forum" tab takes you back to the home page, just like it did here.
