I read with some disgust Jeremy Clarkson's column in the Sunday Times in which he highlighted the growing frequency of incidences of farm animal rustling. I've done a bit of research into this and it seems that it's feeding a demand for ritually slaughtered meats and meats prepared for particular ethnic requirements via a network of undergroung illegal slaughterhouses. One of these "delicacies" is a "smokey" in which the unskinned carcass is blowtorched to char the skin and impart a smoky flavour to the flesh; popular among West African communities apparently. Animal welfare groups acknowledge the existence of these disgraceful operations but when , following a successful prosecution, you only get 2 months in chokey for mutilating sheep with a blunt knife, it's hardly a deterrent is it?

In my opinion, the 2 farmers and Mr. Patel should rot in prison for a good few years or, better still, let me take a blunt sacrificial knife to them and see how they like it! Makes me very angry and upset this.
