Actually, it IS illegal - the only exceptions being for halal and kosher.

This is correct and I for one would not expect anyone to share a very cold view of existence that I hold.

Cato the Elder was of the same view when discussing the Epicurians, he preferred the Aristotle view of transmigration of the soul as it gave him comfort to think he would see his loved ones again and if he was wrong then he would never know.

I don't hold that view, however I do for some reason enjoy viewing some Christian art, but mainly from a humanist angle.

Of course we care, primarily as eating meat from an animal that was in distress at the time of killing will taint the meat with adrenaline and make it taste like rough old boots.

I would guess at the number of people on the board losing sleep over this (other than you) approaches zero.
