Whats stupid is, a 100K salary still only works out at roughly £350 per day.
I was just offered a really good job at £70K. The role was EMEA manager of a large OEM, was constant European travel and selling your soul. Could be a good longterm opportunity. But by the time you run the calculators across it, it's not worth it. It offered 5 weeks holiday, I could take home the same contracting and only have to work 34 weeks on an average rate!
It just dont make sense
Yes it does. You're a contractor who is currently massively overpaid for your skills and responsibilities.
Contracting is all about skills. Period.
Perm is about experience and fitting in.
On my perm role, I moved quickly up in clientco because the company was diverse and in hyper growth. That way I didnt get bored and was also able to rely on my skillset. If IT didnt have bandwidth to get a point solution up and running quickly to help the sales org, I wrote it for phase 1 and then used that as a prototype for them to deliver phase II in 6 months.
Having spent some time looking for a similar perm role, most bore me rigid. I got an offer for one at a really cool company, but then I tried to negotiate for a higher salary(after they had offered it to me), they decided that they didnt want a more experienced manager & down graded the job by another £10k instead!!!
I find though, I dont really have the interest to keep learning new IT skills.
