Some of us enjoy the creativety of IT and have no interest in pushing paperwork and moving further up the food chain and managing a load of Bobs(no offence Bob like). In fact, I feel sorry for anyone doing that kind of work, it may pay but you cannot derive much satisfaction from it surely?

If I am unable to use my creativety I'd rather do something completely different. I don't want to go to my grave and think the last 30 years paid well but bored me to death.
Each to their own. Although I enjoy the financial rewards of contracting, I'd rather take a less well paid career change than do stuff related to IT I have no interest in (managing offshore projects to save pennies when it quite often doesn't work out like that).

I know I will never get to a position where I will make real decisions. I have done the "use my creativety" thing only the see the project cancelled. I have accepted what IT has become, now I put my creativety to other uses. You really don't know what is involved getting my presents required in India for Jan. Feb. and March, twice.
