Mr Laws said his predecessor, Liam Byrne, had left him a letter saying simply: "Dear chief secretary, There's no money left."

Will this little gem be used by the tories in the next election campaign? And the next, and the next, ad infinitum?
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

We're not getting tax raises over here. In fact they are trying to push through abandoning the top rate of tax altogether as only a few sad foreign IT types pay it anyway, everyone else has accountants.

Elizabeth: I have no desire for war, sir.
Cecil: But that is not the end of it. Here at home there are those who wish Your Majesty ill. Mary of Scots has already laid claim to your throne, and Norfolk... Norfolk covets it relentlessly. Madam, until you marry and produce an heir, you will find no security.

Dear chief secretary, There's no money left

He should check anyway. I got a 1st reminder for some overdue PAYE at the beginning of May. Paid it around the 5th. Today, got a second reminder dated the 10th with a note to ignore it if I'd already paid it in the last few days.

Now to me, a preliminary step to sending out a 2nd reminder would be to check if the person had responded to the 1st reminder. But obviously not to the treasury. So there's probably loads of money, but they just haven't been sent their quarterly bank statement or something.

Again, try reading what I actually wrote. Polls on CUK show a Tory majority. That's not labelling if I refer back to it.

Maybe you just can't read well enough to understand?

Anyway, bored now. Will check in on this fascinating debate tonight maybe, if SY01 hasn't posted a more interesting thread about his feelings...

Wrong, the polls are not compulsory so only reflect a Tory majority of those willing to vote.

The majority of people didn’t vote Labour. Neither, you may say, did the majority vote conservative. This argument would be correct. However, I think you’ll find that the quality of the Conservative voters is far superior to others, and that’s enough for me.
