To be fair we as a society treat homosexuality differently to how we look at mental health. The concept of mental health diagnosis is built up from 100000's of questionaires into 'what is the norm'. So most people have a form of 'mental illness' on a scale. Ie. Aspergers, Bipolar etc etc.

Why is homosexuality different. Only a small percentage of the population are bipolar. Only a small percentage are gay. You are born with both, they are both nature not nuture.

You wouldn't let a schizophrenic adopt a child and so therefore by inference you shouldn't let homosexuals adopt. It's a mental illness surely?

How many creatures in the animal kingdom routinely form same-sex relationships? There are probably a few anomalies, but I suspect that in the main, only male and female partnerships prolong the species. If it is not a naturally occurring pattern then one could reasonably deem it to be unnatural, and as a consequence something that might be viewed negatively by many groups.
Now I appreciate we are supposed to be at the top of the food chain, so may be expected to be setting the trend. I can accept that, in many cases, it might be no bad thing for a child to have caring same-sex parents as opposed to negligent heterosexual ones.
However, what does irk me slightly is the fact that this minority seem to me to be getting a disproportionate amount of time and energy being given over to their wants and needs, often at the expense of others who are equally well suited to adoption.
