How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

      Special message for Hector:
Nor me until recently, this will be the 3rd SA form I've filled out this year.

As a director I knew I should have been filling them in so I handed myself in to the tax feds.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Some years ago I made the mistake - and it's apparently quite a big one - of being remiss about my SA forms. One day the doorbell rang and there was a chap from the Inland Revenue wanting to know what I was going to do about it

He was quite nice about it really, even though I kept him standing on the doorstep for our entire conversation out of a vague fear that he might impound the cat or something. I ended up devoting quite a lot of time to four years' worth of forms, even though I'd only been operating a company for the first two of those years

End result: I didn't owe a penny in outstanding tax, but it cost me a few hundred quid in penalties. That's a mistake I won't make again

            Yep, perfectly normal.

Even Mr C (who's a permie) got one a few years back.

                You're very keen.
I usually have to wait a month or two to receive other tax related earnings forms (such as statement showing dividends receive on shares etc), so I complete mine around the end of May.

I never had to do these until I went Ltd. I assume all Ltd co directors have to complete one every year.

Indeed - Hector wrote to me saying I didn't need to do Self Assesment any more shortly after I started MyCo - I have to keep insisting.

Just after I started MyCo, I got a letter from Hector stating that they had "reviewed my situation and decided that I no longer needed to do SA".

I was going to call them, but the next day I received another letter which stated that they had "reviewed my situation and decided that I should now complete SA".

                      Nope. I was on £27k when I left permie-land 2.5 years ago.
