Just under £1500 per year (Band E) to have our bins emptied every fortnight, the street light outside our house still doesn't work properly (comes on when it wants to), no salt / grit in the bins (which isn't a problem now but a couple of months ago made life interesting - not!).

Postie delivered our bill for 2010/2011 a couple of days ago. We moved into this house 6 years ago and in that time the Council Tax has gone up by a little over £500

Empty school hit with £80,000 heating bill

Oakbank School in Aberdeen was closed 18 months ago but has still been running its boiler.

The trustees of a mothballed school have been hit with an £80,000 gas bill because they kept the heating on after it shut.

Oakbank residential school in Aberdeen has been virtually empty for the past 18 months after being shut amid spiralling debts.

The facility was shut due to spiralling costs – with only two members of the former 104-strong workforce left behind to complete administrative work.

However, board vice-chairman Alan Donnelly said the bill is “more than two years old”
