We already have a "bear pit" and a "care bear pit". They are called General & LR.
I can't remember the last time I actively looked for anything in LR - it's a dead end as far as I can see.
General seems to have been a bit more polarised of late, perhaps with more "moderate" posters being put off by the bulltulip "my life is crap/dull/whatever" threads and the bolshyness of some posters. Whether it evolves out of this or not remains to be seen.
Wish list:
I like the list of sub fora to be:
Accounting / Legal
Business/Contracts (although perhaps this name needs changing/role needs to be more closely defined)
Technical
Reasoned, Robust Debate (on news & contractor related stuff, not Jordan's latest husband)
Chit chat (any topic, be nice - even if you aren't)
I'd like to see reputation implemented in A&L, B&C & Tech. but for that rep to be visible across the whole site to promote people actually helping each other / newbies.
Personally, I wouldn't ditch post counts but I would base custom titles on rep scores."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

FAQ's first
Contract related area
Tech/General/light Relief at bottom
By time newer people have started at FAQ's then moved to the contract related areas and they will be ready for the social element towards the bottom.oxo with Sunday lunchComment

I agree with the General consensus that Generally General should stay pretty much as is - with a possible caveat on the description saying
"This is a bear pit - if you don't like it don't come in" or suitable words.
Plus a modicum more restraint.... but if not forthcoming thats what the mods are for.
And move it down the board might stop virgins getting raped when they say Hello!
I think Cojak's Netiquette post is brill and something like it could be stickied at the top of each forum with "local rules" plus were relevant a FAQ or somesuch.
(I would hate to write a FAQ for General)
Never quite got my had round LR... is is a "Happy Place" or is it where flame wars end up.....
I think by and large the "serious" forums should be/remain Troll/Flame free but do think "RTFM or FAQ/Use the Search" is a valid answer to many newbie posts... Helped I think by Cojaks Netiquette post.
I would say thats my 2p - but I think its about 50pComment

It's not good for a newbie to be greeted with a lion pit when the other forums have all the gold!
I do believe I commented on this when I returned and suggested a forum change(getting char broiled in the process. I also PM'd admin the same. What happens in General, stays in General. You know what they say about assumptions!Comment

How about a Naughty Step where threads that degenerate into can be moved to, to die a natural, undignified death? ( The trouble with that is that some discussions start off very well... but the new software does allow threads to be split, I believe ).Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment
