Best TV for under £400

Given that we're looking at a 32" or 37" display I'd like as high a resolution as possible.
£400 seems a reasonable price to pay for something that may end up being a spare set at some stage in the future anyway.
TBH 40" and above will be just too unwieldy unless we put it on the wall.
Thanks again.Last edited by Churchill; 24 February 2010, 13:08.Comment

Subject closed I guess but if you want a Samsung 42" HD Ready plasma for £414 then I can tell you one of 2 ways to get it.
It's not Full HD but this is a bedroom TV for me so I'm more than happy with it for the price.Comment

BBC HD broadcasts at the same resolution as Sky, 1080i. However they dropped the bitrate last year resulting in lower picture quality that is nothing to do with the resolution.Originally posted by minestrone View PostThe BBC HD is by far the poorest quality HD channel, not a patch on SKY movies or SKY sports.
As it stands there is very little if any difference between a 720p picture and a 1080i picture due to the differing technologies used to create them ( progressive scanning versus interlacing ) and the refresh rates used. ( 60 fps for 720p 30 or 25 fps for 1080i ). In fact 720p will actually give a better picture on fast moving images than 1080i due to the faster refresh rate."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

I was suggesting you are not a very good judge of picture quality if you think BBC HD is 'bloody good'.Comment

At least you're not calling his pint a puff!Originally posted by minestrone View PostI was suggesting you are not a very good judge of picture quality if you think BBC HD is 'bloody good'.
Surely the term "bloody good" is subjective anyway?
With regards to picture quality, I know enough about it to be happy or not - I've worked for Pace developing STB software so have a little experience in that arena.

Well that was helpful, I was just about to ask the same question but for a 42"+.
I like the Samsungs but can't work out the difference between the 1-8 series they do???
Any help.
