Because currently Blu-Ray is the only true HD source you will get in the UK. Sky+HD and Freeview HD do not broadcast in 1080p. Sky only support 1080i or 720p. Infact there are very few channels currently broadcasting at any kind of HD resolution at all.

We dont have a Blu-Ray player and don't really want one, so there was no point is stumping up extra for a 1080p TV. You wont see much if any differance between an upscaled standard image on 1080p and one on 720p.

Yes, this will change as time goes on but it will be a few years yet before we get Full HD broadcasts on the majority of channels, by which time we'll be ready to buy again to take advantage of it. The Olympics on BBC HD still look bloody good on this one so we are happy with it.

Yes spend ££££ now and then spend ££££ later. Makes sense to me.

The low res panels look lousy. Go to specsavers.

At the moment the "low res" panels look exactly the same as the hi-res because, with the exception of Blu-Ray, they are displaying a picture that doesnt take advantage of the Hi-Res screen's capabilities anyway.

Spend less now and upgrade in 5 years or spend more now for no benefit and replace it in 5 years anyway.

Sky HD is 1080i so it has a native resolution of 1920 pixels.

You 20th century panel cannot cope and has to squish that into your low res display.

                  You are talking arse.
