So what if they choose to play D&D, MF? It's not my personal preference, and it's obviously not yours, but I think you're being excessively narrow minded to criticise them in the way you have.
Many activities we enjoy that are considered 'child-like' by some, are a fantastic way of keeping creativity alive, and it isn't difficult to imagine why D&D can strengthen creativity and imaginative performance. Something which I value highly.
    Indeed RF.

I have met a few folks in life who couldn't creatively think their way out of a paper bag, and I do feel sorry for them. They somehow tend to think that games of imagination are beneath them or pointless. So they deride others who do, in order to justify their own short-comings.

It's like the creative spark that we are all born with has diminished and died, suffocated by their own fears of how others might perceive them.

And that is quite sad, I believe.

To live in a world with no creativity, no expression, no encouragement to try new things, to explore, to learn, to develop, to play.

The irony is, that some of those people like to play football, which is a game in and of itself, requiring skill, dexterity and judgment. No different from Warhammer 40K and tabletop minis.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It''s funny how people can assume that just because someone has what can be considered geeky hobbies, we must therefore be lacking in the bed chamber.

I'll be unequivocal and say the irony is that it's you who is probably the odd one out. Halo would slap me for saying more, and quite rightly too :-)

Forgive me if I am wrong..... but isn't that a desired outcome?

Not at all. Continue to play. But hanging around a Games Workshop playing games with other peoples children when you're an adult!

Bit iffy if you ask me. To be honest I think all GW adults should have a CRB if they want to hang around there.

To be fair though, RH. You and BGG just 'passed' an Aspergers test which is defined as

"As soon as we meet a person we make judgements about them. From their facial expression, tone of voice and body language we can usually tell whether they are happy, angry or sad and respond accordingly.

People with Asperger syndrome can find it harder to read the signals that most of us take for granted. This means they find it more difficult to communicate and interact with others which can lead to high levels of anxiety and confusion.
              "

So living in a fantasy world is probably easier for those with said traits.

Warhammer != D&D whole different realm with different variation on the critters!!

Cue long rambling post about the differences which I just removed and replaced with this after realising just how sad I was getting...

BTW I always found Eldar to be the most fun, although I did have a Genestealer army at one point and the Primarch was amazing fun. This was before Tyranids who I don't find as much fun, half the fun of a genestealer army was that it looked like you were racking up Imperial Guards until the stealers burst out of hiding and tore into the enemies most powerful unit slicing and dicing them in seconds MUWAHAAAHHAAAAAA...

                Webway FTW though!

And so what if some still indulge in tabletop now and again, heck, some of us are still involved in LRP.

There are some whose whole life revolves around this and there are those of us for which this is a "hobby" and nothing else.

                      Patriarch ?

Takes me back to Space Hulk - GW released a new edition in a limited quantity last year. Eldest lad currently collects Tyranids and Imperial Guard.
