Is it any good? Are there comfortable category prisons that are less full of junkies that house petty criminals such as those putting a brick through a police station's window and saying arrest me? Or is prison here like in America where you have to make a shank out of a toothbrush and not drop soap in the shower?

Why?

I've known a number of people who've been inside for various offences ranging from fraud through possession with intent to supply and burglary to GBH.
None of them have recommended it.Comment

How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

You have to try pretty hard to get sent to prison - petty vandalism of a Police station is only going to get you a fine, or a couple of weeks on remand at best.
If you're considering it, I'd have a go at armed robbery - it's a win-win really:
Get caught - go to prison for 10+ years, happy days.
Don't get caught - enjoy benefits of your crime, happy days."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

If you want the easy way to go to prison for a very long time, fiddle your VAT payments by a few quid.

My Brother did 18 months most in Winson Green in Brum.
He really does not recommend it.
Although the open prison he was put in near to his release seemed ok, they had a shop where they sold the produce they'd grown, I bought some very nice cyclamens thereI'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this
