Can you not also see that a great number of people will not be able to adapt, they may have reached their mental zenith... but "feck em' eh".
So if the HO have tightened the rules it cant be happening now then.

Cant agree on your second point, Im sure folk will get along just fine in time.

Oh come on, our government has no idea how many foreigners are in the country and probably much less of an idea about their financial arrangements, saying that I'm sure everything will be in order should anyone check their records.

As for my second point, I knew someone who had a breakdown and committed suicide all because he lost his job, I'm not blaming Indians for that but there's a lot of hardship being felt at the moment and this sort of thing doesn't help.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Look at these guys. BBC: Southampton taxi drivers in St George flag row

They tried to compete against imports by providing something that the customers want but the local council will not let them.

It's the same if you are a taxi driver in Southampton, a developer in London, or whatever they do in the north these days. Not only is there a lack of support for British suppliers, there is an active policy of hindrance.
Judging by the comments that follow the reporting of this story on this local paper I would say that what the customers want is a good kicking.

The reporting of this story in the Daily Mash was better I think.

A quick read of the echo story suggests a queue of pissed up white people looking specifically for a white, english speaking taxi driver, presumably turning down taxis driven by non whites.

Can't see it myself. More likely the taxi driver is talking kak...

I'd like to begin a discussion about the future of the UK IT worker. I am worried about the encroachment of Indian nationals from 'offshore' companies in UK offices.

I live in Winchester (10 miles down the road from Southampton but much nicer ) and there is definitely an problem with taxi drivers being bodyshopped in from "other areas". I've actually got a cab licence (yes really) so I'm "in the know" with what's going on there from people I've talked to, including the local council.

I'm not saying the Soton drivers are wrong, just that they are inarticulate at best. What is happening to us with ICTs is happening to them as well and they are complaining and making a fuss about it the only way they know how.

                    This thread died yesterday.

OK. I've just read the rest of the thread.

By Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies, this thread is now officially dead.

                    I stopped reading after that.

                      Question is..... re-skill in what?

There does not seem to be any hot area at the moment (and no, not even the tooooo tooooooo SAP groovy train appears pumping too much steam at the moment...). Every skill is being offshored, no preferences applied.
I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.
