Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson -

If you are in the same market as those with similar skills who are prepared to work 12 hour days for 100US a day, then not surprising that work is so hard to come by if you are thinking of charging 4 times as much.
Find your USP and leave that all behind.

I am doing well too, that does not mean I am arrogant or stupid enough not to see how serious situation gets now.
At the moment, too many people with common skills asking for too much money are finding stiff competition from those who will do the same for much less.
AFAIK markets have always worked that way, no reason to believe that IT contacting is an exception to the rule.
Obvious when you think about it.

You can't do much about people far away willing or being forced one way or another to work very long hours for bugger all money, however it totally changes economics if they happen to be located in this country especially if the job they do here can't be done offshore, effectively this cheats the game: if you are offshore you have advantage of cheap costs, but disadvantage of being far away, poor communications etc. Moving offshore to onshore is taking it too far - that's unfair competition, or "dumping" if you like.
Not that you give a tulip because you are personally at this precise moment is ok. I doubt it will be for long since you don't strike me as a man who is capable of strategic thinking. Sadly neither is current Govt.Comment

I don't think the pounds go out of circulation as you put it, just used for a different purpose.

Listening to you is like someone asking a question about Prousts 'recherche du temps perdu' and someone else replying 'it's half past four mate'
factually accurate, but totally irrelevant to a wholly philosophical question

If you want to give your children good (private) education it will cost like what, £20k per year per child, and what if you have few children? £40k after tax is like £80k gross required just to give children good education.

On your final point, wrong again Im afraid, after 27 years of continuous contracting I will be retiring in April....if my clients let me that is.
