No, I think I'm still reasonably symmetrical about the vertical axis

Maybe get someone built like a Turkish wrestler to try the Dr Watson trick on you, placing their arms under yours and folding them back to clasp their hands behind your neck and then giving a sharp wrench.
It worked a treat for Sherlock Holmes in one of those films, and he spent hours loafing in his armchair. I don't recall him sneezing though; but he may well have done, what with all that pipe smoke and his dust-based filing system.Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

Also get into the habit of exercise. A visit to back specialist will tell you where the weakness is and it could be that specific exercise of particular muscles will help prevent this from reoccurring.
Hope it clears up quickly for you as there is not much worse than back pain.
Also, invest in a good chair at home for when you are at the computer. Herman Miller Aeron's are worth every penny IMO. Some good second hand ones on Ebay at the minute if you are a cheapskate like me...Comment

And most importantly - don't sit in your chair posting on CUK at night, not even I do that!!! Not anymore...Comment

I had a bad back recently and I don't know what brought it on. Putting on shoes was the worst. Symptoms peaked in a day or so and disappeared almost as quickly. The last stage was an ache in a hard-to-localise but probably right hand side rib/chest area but I'm not sure precisely where, especially of the depth. After about a week I was totally symptomless. I don't think there is much you can do except not too much of anything. Not too much laying down, or sitting, or standing, or exercise. Painkillers do flip all for me, but they work on some people I gather.Comment

Get a naked Thai bird to walk up and down your back in high-heels.
It won't do you any good but it'll certainly take your mind off your cricked back...Comment

I was able to potter around the flat OK, but nipping to the Co-op for a pint of milk proved to be a somewhat arduous journey, and it got worse throughout the evening.
After a not-very-good night's sleep on a mattress on the floor, things had improved somewhat this morning. However I made the mistake of using a basket rather than a trolley when I went up to Sainsbury's at lunchtime, and ended up having to spend several minutes twisting about in the car seat before I could be certain of operating the pedals adequately
Does the panel have any ideas for a quick fix, or am I doomed to waste away, a broken stooping husk?
P.S. If I don't arrive at the Nottingham drinks on Friday, I'll have got stuck - could somebody phone Sheffield station and ask them to help me off the train (and give me a penalty fare) when I end up there"I can put any old tat in my sig, put quotes around it and attribute to someone of whom I've heard, to make it sound true."
