Plus Noscript and other add-ons updating themselves.

It's intensely annoying when you just want to look up a bit of info before you go out, and what should be a quick lookup turns into an update and restart.

To be honest it's days on my system are looking numbered. It's just been too much hassle recently.

I installed firefox a few weeks ago... only used it once, didn't seem any faster compared to IE8 so I stopped bothering

            No ?

            Pointless then.
ISTM that it doesn't replace anything. Not your PC, not your phone, not your iPod, not your camera, not your books.

I tried IE8 once - didn't seem to do anything that Chrome or Firefox does, so stopped bothering.

I'm amazed they're still managing to flog whichever iteration of Office they're onto these days. From what I can see it was feature complete about 10 years ago.

Certainly seen nothing to tempt me to upgrade from Office XP, apart from Open Office.
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

                    Oh right, I see !

It doesn't replace anything, it just creates a need where there wasn't one in the first place.

You've got to give it to Apple, their marketing department must have access to some seriously mind-bending drugs.

But hey, so long as it's shiny, has the Apple logo on it, people will think I'm cool if I buy one.

Which kind of reinforces my view, that Apple don't sell products, they sell "Lifestyle and Cool Immortality".

Obviously works for them, I guess. And people like it as well.

                    So everyone's happy :-)
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

That does seem to be one common criticism out there - the iPhone and iPod actually fulfilled a need, whereas the iTampon doesn't.

As a self-confessed gadgetophile, I keep looking at tablets now (and there are a couple of competing products already) and thinking "oooh, shiny, must buy..." and MrsF keeps saying "BUT WHY?!?!?"

The only answer I can give is that it's been a while since I bought a gadget, and now that I have the prospect of some work, I want to buy something to celebrate.
