Thought this was a contractors' BB, not a rightist political organ.

I think you will find the majority of Gaurdian readers are Liberal rather than Leftist.

The Left would rather read the Morning Star , Socialist Worker (always an interesting journal !) or for the less literate, the Daily Mirror.

            Fair comment.

But consider this. It's still (just) free speech in this country and the majority here I suspect can see that New Lie is NOT the party of the hard working, well paid, British IT worker and that the New Lie do NOT have small business anywhere on their list of priorities.

              Reasons not to vote Labour

The Labour party are utterly incapable of drafting legislation intelligently. God knows what stupidity we already have on the statute book. Only this week:

              * The education White Paper was dismissed by an all-party select committee as "an extraordinarily poorly written piece of work that had sown unprecedented confusion among educationists and MPs"

              * The Health Bill, with plans for a partial ban on smoking in public places in England, was dismissed by the all-party health select committee as "unfair, unjust, inefficient and unworkable"

After eight years of practice - and they have been shovelling out new legislation faster than any government in history - you'd think they would have learned how to write.

Look up John Maynard Keynes on Google.

He explains the law of demand and supply.

I have no problem with repressing the power of the Unions because at the end of the seventies I agree they were too powerful.

However, thatcher's policies of redistibuting wealth to the rich mean't that more money ended up in the pockets of the wealthy rather than the pockets of the less affluent.

By definition the less affluent spend all their income.

                Therefore.

The disproprtionately high higher rate tax could have been brought down more slowly along with increases in personal allowances and lower taxation at the lower end of the pay scale. More money in the pockets of the poor. More spending, faster turnaround. This could have still been done in conjunction with her plans to reduce the power of trade unions.

Thatcher actively ignored these options. She viewed lower paid workers as pawns that could be sacrificed for her peceived greater good. This is why many people I grew up with are still very bitter about her and her ilk.

Who cares about poor people anyway? Just turn them into cheap fuel to keep rich IT contractors homes warm in the winter.

                  Problem solved.

The best solution for poor people is to do everything to foster a society where they can become wealthy people.

Encourage hard work, enterprise, small businesses. Tax breaks for budding businesses. No more red tape and mountains of pointless legislation.

Train people. Educate people. Guide people and make them want to aspire to be better than they are. Not dumb down and free handouts. Penalise the successful and make them feel guilty.

Not tax everyone to try and bring everyone down to their level in the name of sodding "fairness".

In another 10 yrs, Britain will be truly 3rd world, way behind forward thinking countries like India and China.

We'll all be poor then, so that sounds "fair".

And for the benefit of Google.

Don't vote labour. Do not vote labour. Reasons not to vote labour. Never vote labour.
