If you are about Afganistan then Britain (and NATO) have to be there since there was an attack on member of NATO (USA) which according to Article 5 (I think got the right number) all members should treat it as attack on all of them.

This article saved Western Europs from USSR attack - so Europe owes USA that much to get involved in Afganistan decisevely.

Now Iraq is another matter - it was not NATO operation and UK should have refused to get involved in this adventure.

The group's website says the event is being held "not in memory of the occupying and merciless British military" but of the Muslims its says have been "murdered in the name of democracy and freedom".
As opposed to the Muslims who've been murdered by other Muslims in such freedom loving places as Iran...

They interviewed this chap on R4 this morning, when the point was put that more muslims have been killed by other muslims in Afganisatan than by the western forces, his responce was that this fact was clearly untrue.

When pointed out that this was based on information from the United Nations he claimed they did not recognise the UN as a source of truthfull information.

When asked where he got his figures from he said they got them from thier "brothers fighting for freedom" in afganistan.

You should put this question to the Taliban/al Qaeda who are deliberately exploding bombs in civilian gatherings in Pakistan, no?

didn't those brave muslim chaps send in a 14 year old girl strapped with explosives into a crowded area and remotely detonate her - boy those guys really now how to fight bravely against the nasty western oppresors

I normally try and put a bit of a funny/rude sign off here but I somehow do not have the heart right now.

It would be better if no-one turned up.

Then they'd have their protest all to themselves.

Sadly I don't think that would be the case.

The police shouldn't approve it. Let them have their protest somewhere else.

I had a quick look at Islam4uk.com earlier on, but it's gone all 403 now.

Is it just me, or is this quote from Choudary in both Beeb articles very strange?

"If I am to balance between the sensitivity of having it in Wootton Bassett and the possibility of continuing the quagmire and cycle of death in Afghanistan, then quite honestly I'm going to balance in favour of the latter." (emphasis added)

Let them assemble, then profile them and investigate every millimetre of their lives, possessions, contacts, phone records, associations, wiretaps, electronic trails, the works. Build a nice watchlist, and potentially some useful assets. That's far more useful than any other course of action - oh and all this could be achieved without letting them near Wootton Bassett.

A diabolical liberty. It's not as if we send people to go marching round in Islamic countries in favour of democracy now is it?
