Let the people decide if we want more immigrants. If you want more and you think a Britain with 70 or 80 million people is a better place, vote Labour, if not, vote Conservative.

Denmark has 5.5M people for comparison and seems to function perfectly well.
There are still plenty of space in the UK.

Id also be interested to see how many of these immigrants that are such a danger to the UK's endemic population are intending to stay in the UK forever or just for a bit until Obama and the allies sort out their own corner of the world and make it safe for them again....

Id consider moving back to the UK but its still not safe at the moment...

There is space up North. But not in the South-East. Which is where everyone wants to move to.

Personally, Id rather live up North, but it seems that most for the Northerners want to/have moved down South for the work.

Maybe this is a greater concern??

If they all moved back up North, there would be even more space for the new immigrants!

Plenty of space = our beautiful countryside. Over my dead body will that get built on to provide housing for a completely unnecessary influx of migrants.

I reckon you must be a troll. It's patently obvious there's a problem, it's just that the solutions differ.

People have been saying that for centuries.

I seem to remember some government bod on TV in the 60's saying that they will preserve the green space around London and look what happened??

Maybe we should just make the country bigger by draining the sea like we did with East Anglia in the 6th and 10th centuries and was then copied by the Dutch??

Scots and Welsh (amongst others) wouldn't want to. I know I have English, French and Scottish ancestors.

                PZZ
The UK is nowhere near overcrowded and provided these immigrants pay their taxes, open a small business etc then they are exactly the kind of people the UK needs.PZZ
Parts of the UK are feeling the effects because of the extra demand on services. Affected local authorities have been raising this as an issue.

As an expat in the Middle East, do I want to adopt the local culture? I don't smoke so don't frequent the shisha (sp?) cafes, I'm not a muslim so don't want to give up alcohol/pork (although some Arabs obviously do booze) and I dress differently. I know a little of the local language to mind my Ps and Qs. But then I don't intend to stay here for more than a couple of years.

In my view, being ethnically diverse isn't the issue; its where multiculturalism leads to separate ways of life in a country to the detriment of the whole. At its best, it enriches a society.

The bottom line is that immigration is only a problem because certain people want to make it a problem.

Coupled with that, the Government and local service are unable to develop a strategy to deal with the fact that the needs of their customer base will change over time. How many companies would survive if they took that approach to customer requirements??

They have, but the point is that nothing has ever been seen on this scale before. It's the sheer numbers and timescale over which this has been happening. And, according to Saturday's leak by some govt advisor, the driving force behind this was not only an economic one but a political one in which the goal was to engineer a multicultural society and rub the Right's nose in diversity. Scandalous, absolutely scandalous.

If the strategy needs to change then the immigrants should pay for it.

How about higher taxes for immigrants?
