I'm not a troll. Sure the topic's been done before but it's topical again with the release of yesterday's figures. 70 million by 2020 with the bulk of the increase in the South East. There's not enough room and it's simply not good enough to be told to budge up and get on with it.
It was topical up to the end of the first paragraph
So what's their game? Is it really that the government just hate white middle England and want to turn the UK into some utopian rainbow nation? Maybe it's all driven by global economics and the mirants are just fodder for the big corporations? Or maybe I'm having paranoid delusions, though I don't think so - there's definitely intention behind the apparent chaos. Please discuss.
That's the one.
There are no borders as far as big corporations are concerned, don't like it? We'll invest elsewhere. Of course the knock on effect is smaller companies do the same to compete.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson
GingerJedi is right.
For historical reasons when Labour came to power they were desperate to reassure (lick arse) the big corporations. So when the big corps said jump that's exactly what Labour did.
And the big corps did exactly what they wanted as Labour was too chicken to set in place any rules.
Hence the banks cocking up and causing the credit crunch and Labour allowing the big corps to misuse ICTs to import lots of foreign workers.
It ain't a conspiracy, its just incompetence as usual.
When the only balance is between one extreme and another, and what is happening on immigration is totally extreme, the far right is an essential part of democracy. You may not like them but the only reason that this goverment is considering any caps at all on immigration is due to rise of the BNP and the fear that they will take working class votes and threaten some marginal seats. The Neo Nazis did Germany the same favour in the 60s.
I think Frank Field and Nicholas Soames have summed things up nicely here:
The only time that far right parties flourish is when the legitimate and reasonable wants and aspirations of ordinary people are totally ignored. Eventually, even reasonable people won't take any more.
This has all happened before, most notably in Vienna 1907 when the city was overrun with foreigners and Austria's own culture and nationality was denigrated as ours is now. Our lords and masters learn nothing because they inhabit an elite strata that sees few of the problems. Who made this tolerant comment do you think?
I still saw only the religion of the Jews and for reasons of human tolerance held aloof from attacks on this religion, as any other. Consequently, the tone struck by the antisemitic press of Vienna appeared to me as unworthy of the cultural heritage of a great nation. The memory of certain occurrences in the Middle Ages oppressed me; I would not wish to see them repeated.
