    2) A few years back Newham council spent a fortune and completed gutted and renovated a block of flats not far from the West Ham football ground. The council then announced that the new occupants were going to be exclusively elderly people -this was fine. The next sentence said that it would be exclusively elderly Asians - this obviously pi**ed off the local whites.

Why is there now less antagonism towards Hindus or Blacks? Its generally because they do try to integrate with the host country. I know many Hindus who celebrate Christmas but likewise I've even had Muslim builders who insisted on working on Xmas day to make a point.
Maybe they need more mosques because there are a greater number of muslims in those areas?
But I do agree that coucils should not print communications in different languages….

The reason muslims don’t celebrate christmas is because the relgion forbids it. Then again, how many christians actually celebrate Eid or diwali? In fact, how many christians celebrate christmas by going to chruch?

      Hmmm........
No reason in particular - just a typical internet forum rant really. I'm just trying to make the point that the Right-On brigade has only made things much worse for the same communities they were trying to help/gain votes from.

Rant is right - short on heat , low on light.

Voting patterns are not based on ethnicity but class. I would guess well-off people of whatever race will vote for the party of low taxes, small government, family values, good schools etc (traditionally the Tories).
Thatcher was well aware of this fact and went out of her way to cultivate the Asian vote.

I'm guessing Newham etc is Labour but then it probably was back in the 19th century when there were no immigrants.
        Hard Brexit now!

          Christmas

The reason we celebrate Christmas it is part of OUR heritage. We are not a Muslim or any other type of country.

The Siege of Vienna 1529 and subsequent Battle of Vienna 1683 kept the Muslims out of western Europe.

In France you have to speak French and look French. The Italians are starting to get tough on foreigners. The Germans .... enough said .

You have some research from a respected sephologist to support this of course - I mean it's not just your own "it's obvious" "logic" is it? The reason I ask is that I'm sure I remember reading somewhere a piece of politcal analysis that suggested significant support for Thatcher came from the poor but aspirant "lower classes"

25% of the population in that area are Muslim so what do you expect them to do? Hide their religion so as not to offend anyone else?

Apart from the fact that in the 19th Century the London Borough of Newham was Essex countryside and the Labour Party hadn't been formed, I agree.

The East End of London has always been a first stop for new arrivals in the country while they establish themselves and then move on but before they do they will suffer the sort of economic disadvantages that make people vote Labour.

Having said that, if you read the Rotten Boroughs section of Private Eye regularly you can get the impression that the traditional British approach to politics no longer goes on in these areas and has been replaced with a feudal approach from the sub-continent.

The ones who are actually Christians tend to. The ones who think being born in England makes them nominally christian obviously don't give a damn, it's just a chance to drink and argue with the in-laws

10 pages, and no actually offensive racism so far. I'm disappointed, the thread would have been much more fun to read if Cyberman were still around.

No I don't have any evidence except for anecdotal.
As for your second point - yes the poor but aspirant lower classes did vote for Thatcher because she let them buy their council houses on the cheap.
That particular bone is now well chewed, so they'll vote for whoever gives them the most now.

That's because most on CUK are too intelligent to be racist.
I mean you'd have to be incredibly stupid to judge someone solely by skin colour.
