From my own observations the grey hair seems to convey experience worth paying for. And at 31 (and a little bit grey myself) I still find myself being the obvious junior member of a team.
Having said that, I tend to get picked up for projects where team numbers need to be kept small (agile development) and experience highCoffee's for closersComment

I learned loads of things when I did Electronics at school, but the one thing that has stuck right near the front of my mind is the word JUGFETs. I have been waiting 30 years for the opportunity to use JUGFETs in a conversation; I suspect that time will never come for me.
Isn't it what we call JFET these days?

Just phoned PlusNet to say I'm moving. They do a far better deal for new customers than for existing customers so I phoned them.
It is £60 to move house. That is a recent change to their T&Cs.
It is £20 to 'initiate a ceasation order' (i.e. cancel the contract). That is a recent change to their T&Cs.
Their one-month package now has a minimum 18 month term. That is a recent change to their T&Cs.
Why do utilities & banks get to enforce contracts where they can make up the T&Cs as they wish?My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.Comment

The agent is not in today. Spoke to her colleague: there's nothing from the client in her Inbox and no updates on their database.
So: no news today.
And the agent goes on holiday on Wednesday...My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.Comment

Or maybe the client had 1st Choice and 2nd Choice, if you are 2nd choice they are awaiting until 1st choice has confirmed and signed off before telling you the job is gone.... but you never know, it could be that the client approvals has been delayed, or some PMO gone on holiday and never bothered processing the work on Friday.Comment

It's one of those sh*t situations where all you want is some guaranteed 'confirmation' to put things at rest, all the same you don't want to rock the boat by calling up and making any kind of irrational demands on them, or sounding desperate.
This has only ever happened to me once and after day #3 of being fobbed off with "client is in a meeting, client needs to check with her line management, etc" I finally called their bluff and gave them an ultimatum of "I need confirmation by 5pm today or things can't proceed".
Funnily enough I never got a response.. (wasn't too bothered as I was already still in a gig with time left)...
They still had the cheek to call me 2 months later about another gig (at the same place).. business being business I was in there (interview etc) despite the previous run-around.. that was the place I did a 10/10 interview then got knocked back for being 'overqualified for the role'... (Hah! Yeah, next time I hire someone to come work in my house I only want them if they are 18 and fresh out of their College course).. (oh and before you ask, yes it was public sector).
Anyway, good luck - I really hope they are not giving you the run-around on this. The cycle of life: born > learn > work > learn > dead.Comment
