Re your cough, apparently lots of hot drinks help, I suggest non-dairy ones, I recently suffered a cough for seven weeks, drove me up the wall!

My gran used to smoke these - they had no filter thingys - apalling yokes they were too!

One of the features of being on the bench (or self-employed for that matter) is that one's world gets smaller. By seeing fewer people and having fewer interactions, small things take on an inappropriately large significance. This is why it is good to try and get out every day.

Some people are good at this and go jogging or walk the dog or go to the gym. Some, like me, are sedentary creatures and spend the day sat in a chair, undressed and unwashed, given half a chance.

So having to go and sign on has its uses.

The Job Centre man was one of those recruited from the unemployed to cope with the huge extra workload they have, so he was nice and sympathetic.

The lady from the Chemist's recognised me on her way back from somewhere and said a cheery "Hello dearie!".

And the walk through the graveyard, with almost all the graves still decorated from Xmas, was pleasant too.

And on top of that, I did 2 x 20 minutes brisk walking like the doctor said I should.

It's funny how the world seems like a happier place ... when you know you have an interview.
