So where is the campaign to move our accounts away from Lloyds?
Most of the jobs that have been switched over are fairly low level stuff up. The problem is that ICTs are a far greater threat to people in this level of IT. This year I was working for a substantial financial who employ a few hundred contractors and was told on the QT that they are going to replace all their UK based contract work with ICTs.
Low paid workers doing highly skilled jobs (roles that contractors have traditionally undertaken) offshore outnumber ICT's by a magnitude of many thousands. There are millions of em in fact. Even the UK government is now offshoring a lot of projects such as Oracle development work, Java coding etc. This was thought to never be possible due to security etc requirements, but those pesky ousourcers have found a way around this also. This is what you should have stopped, but as I said too late to stem the flow now.

PZZ
from MY experience I am not too bothered about whole dev teams going off shore, I have found that they inevitably bugger it up and the sorting out has to be brought back onshore.
I am certainly more worried about development teams being hired to work here under a UK architect and PM as they have a far greater chance of working out. They just cannot hide like they do when they are offshore.
Warped logic but I have found that to be the case.
As far as onshore-offshoring goes why stop at IT? Why not outsource lawyers, accountants, financial analysts, engineers, doctors and medical staff (well on the way there), nuclear plant workers, etc...etc...

I’ve long held the belief that it will only stop once the lawyers get outsourced. Many MPs are lawyers and only one their own get their livelihoods decimated will the rest of us stand a chance.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

I think some of this has started already.
So we all end up having to emigrate to compete at 20% of the wages - an even faster decline into the 3rd world.
This default font is sooooooooooooo boring and so are short usernames

Lawyers - just waiting for EU legislation to harmonize this profession and you will be inundated by lawyers from the cheaper EU countries undercutting the local outfits (max 2 years away).
Accountants - already happened - the last UK company I worked for moved their accounts division to Kuala Lumpur 3 years ago taking approx 1,000 jobs away from the UK.
Engineers - already happened.
Doctors - already happened, its significantly cheaper to get plastic surgery etc done overseas and results about the same.
