    Ok, what *can* you do?

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, find somewhere else and hope it doesn't to you again!

If everyone who saw abuse of the system reported it, I suspect there would be a lot more IT jobs around.
      Hard Brexit now!

Someone has made a decision about who they're going to employ and who they're going to let go.

Don't think for one minute that whoever made the decisions didn't run it by their HR folks to make sure that they weren't leaving themselves exposed legally.
Can't do anything about this one now - that is a battle to be lost...

The war is to put in a new goverment with a mandate to change the law - in order to protect jobs in the future.

          Protectionism doesn't work.

Large share-holder owned companies on the whole don't want to protect jobs, they want to make as much profit as possible.

Didn't we do this in 2001?

              True - partly.

But then, can the global economy keep growing for ever and ever?
There will always be winners and losers - and people prepared to fight for their patch.

The refinery workers were not afraid to stand their ground!

Besides, as the Indian economy continues to grow, wages in India will be high enough to not make it economic to have the services provided from 'over there' anymore. Can't tell you when that will happen but the different rates of economic growth will change the balance - then you will see protectionism in action!

Oh and guess who the majority shareholder is for Lloyds now????

So do you suggest that every corporation should advertise all jobs worldwide?
That would be a logical consequence of not having protectionism.

                  Should or must?

If you want the right person for the right price then advertise where the hell you want.

Exactly. So they don't care about the countries in which they are based. National survival suggests that rules should be put in place to curtail the excesses of corporations.
I think we have been brainwashed by the "Free market good" mantra too much in this country. Other countries seem to have another concept which they think is just as important called the "national interest".

If that were to happen the majority of people in the UK would be unemployed, given that our education system is now far from the best.
