    Russian

I must admit Rooski is a bee-hatch to learn.

Learning the Cyrillic alphabet is easy, but the grammar is quite somthing else.

However once you get that under your belt, any other slavic languages will be easier to learn.

I am three yearss of part time study down and I am only beginning to be able to structure coherent sentences.

That being said I am pretty sure any tonal language must be light years harder.

I wanted to learn Dari (for SnG) a while ago - mental. Gave up after about six weeks.

Yes, but it is used that way.

My favourite in "that's a sign of ignorance" is in one of the jysk dialects when they say something like "Han elsker hans kone", when in Rigsdansk they said "Han elsker sin kone", but jysk is tonal in this regard, and if you use 'sin' it's like, ew look at him putting on the 'airs.

          Jysk is largely incorrect Danish.

Are you really a Danish teacher?

The language that scares me most is Politico-speak. Should be banned.

Yes, Jysk is 'incorrect', but students come into class repeating stuff they've heard at work, read in the newspaper etc. and you have to know how to explain to them why it is wrong, and how to do it correctly. It's this thing about communicating with people, as opposed to passing a set of language exams. They are sometimes quite separate things, and there's an awful lot of exam-technique involved.

Oddly enough, most of the people teaching at the top end i.e. Modules 5, 6 and 'Prove i Dansk 3' are 'foreigners'. Danes whose Danish is that good tend to be Lawyers or Doctors.

The grammar is generally simple - no tenses, no verb/adjective/noun agreement.

                Future tense: tomorrow I go
                Present tense: today I go
                Past tense: yesterday I go

What's important is the get the tones right and to get the pronouns correct - they change according to who you are and who you are addressing.
