it's weird to me. when i say its weird, i mean its weird from my point of view.

Apologies EO, I didn't mean to directly or indirectly imply that you were stupid for saying "thats what I meant by weird", and if I have caused offence then I do apologise. You can whip me later if you like :-)

What I was trying to say, but failing miserably was that it is easy for people in general to see something and not understand it, and hence brand it "weird".

Whilst that may be a valid POV, it does not do the subject matter justice, and could convey to others that the act in question is somehow wrong.

I'll hold my hand up and say at first, I thought it was weird as well. Bloody weird infact. I mean, who likes pain FFS ? Barmy nutters...

So I decided to challenge my perceptions and visit a club, mingle with the players, ask questions (at appropriate times of course) and see if I could fathom it out.

When it was explained to me, by various sources, rather than just one opinion, I started to "get it" and realise what it was all about.

Now that I am more involved in the scene, a year on, I suppose I take it for granted (though I do appreciate how it can seem weird)

Now, those body-modders...that's REALLY weird...

Which just goes to prove, no matter how much I try to challenge myself and open up to new experiences, there are some things which I instinctively perceive as weird. Mea Culpea. I'm guilty too I guess.

So, having just accused myself of hyprocisy (sp?), I guess I need to examine body-modding more closely and challenge/change my POV.

Churchy : Ok, yes, I'll concede that for some people with addictive personalities, endorphin release might be addictive. These people may have other addictions, or none at all apart from endorphins. That's the nature of addiction I guess. Not everyone who likes a bit of play is addicted, in the same way that not everyone who likes beer is an alkie.

But I know that wasn't your point. You were just correcting my omission, and thank you.
