I found out last night that some kid is picking on my son at school. Because he is blind he doesn't know who it is but he thinks it's the same kid. It started with this kid calling him names, knocking into him and holding doors closed when my son was trying to get around school. Yesterday he was punched him in the face which is pretty low by anybodies standards. He told his support assitant who said 'There isn't much I can do about it is there' which I don't think is good enough. He says things happen when he is between lessons and making his way around the school - he leaves the lessons a couple of minutes early to avoid the rush and because it takes longer when you can't see. We've written to the school and I have told my son that I'll be down there asap if anything happens again and the school do not do something.
Sounds extremely unpleasant and a difficult position for you be in. If you hit the roof, threaten the school, make them do something about it etc you could end up making it worse for your son. Still that's probably a risk worth taking and I think a face to face with the Head/Staff where you can outline your position is definitely the way to go.

How old is he? At some stage he is obviously going to have to stand up for himself and with some of the name calling etc. Violence is way beyond that though so I would think you are fully justified in getting involved asap.

In addition to my post above - hire another kid (or get a brother/sister/cousin) to hang out within the school inbetween lessons. Have him follow your son about and eventually you'll discover the bully.

Even better if they can film the bullying event on their mobile.

When I was bullied at school, my parents spoke to the head.

His first response was "No-one is bullied at **** School." and then went on to say that even if it did happen, it was "character building".

For some reason, my parents still kept me at the school for a further 6 years, paying whatever monstrous fees were being charged at the time.

I think I'd be down there talking to the head and the support staff urgently to get at least something better recorded - also, ask when they are due an OFSTED inspection, as you need to make sure that your thoughts on the schools bullying and disabled policies are accurately recorded...

Personally I was bullied for a while and I know how it feels. I also know how f**king useless most teachers are in dealing with it. I dealth with it by breaking the bully's cheek which left him blinded in one eye, for which I was expelled.

It sickens me that this still goes on and that the bloody wonderful education system seems no closer to solving it.

This is a sh 1 te position for a parent to be in. One good thing, if its possible that any good can come out of this, is that you are aware of the situation. What usually happens is that the kids life gets wrecked and the parents find out too late.

In my opinion you should start to get extreme, right now. nip it in the bud.

You can fight fire with water -
              keep him home
              private tuition
              write to the papers
              make a fuss
              speak to the headmaster

You can fight fire with fire -
              Get him a 'minder'
Get someone to identify the perp and kick the living tulip out of them

I went for the last option, but thats another story.

Sorry to hear Tony! I agree with others that the school's response is disgusting.

Can he not ask one of his friends to tell him who it was? Or do the cowardly actions only take place in isolation?

I would have thought that someone would have seen something.

Sorry to hear that Tony. I agree with Mich. Zero tolerance approach. Get into the heads office and tell them if they don't sort it you will get the LEA and police involved.

If you can bear to, threaten to write a letter into your local rag who will only be too happy to start plastering unfavourable headlines around your locale.

                      I have a plan:

Buy a small hidden camera and attach to said sons lapel/or something.

Catch this little s### in action. Take evidence to the school ehad and get police involved.
