How tall are you? 60kg for a 30 odd year old seems a bit light. It's your bodyfat %age you want to be concerned with, not your weight.Originally posted by expat View PostI have been 60 kg as a healthy adult (admittedly while travelling in 3rd World in my 30s, not deskbound in my 50s) and now I'm 90 kg. That has got to be way too much. Too much, for me, = stops me doing things I might otherwise, and/or cuts my enjoyable lifespan.Older and ...well, just older!!Comment

Quite like cycling but don't have time for it. Yes I know, if you don't have time for what you like, what are you doing with your life?Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostDo you really not like any kind of exercise?
I currently live up on a hill anyway, I have cycled to town and back but hate slogging up the hill on what I see as an unsafe road to cycle on. I work away all week and don't really have time here. Don't fancy coming into office later every morning (short of time) just to pong of sweat anyway.
I like hill-walking and camping and indeed travelling and hiking etc but maybe I don't really like it any more, haven't done it for 15 years. No time, and anyway my partner is the opposite (she prefers to avoid walking too far from the car).Comment

It was indeed very light: if you do a long trip in the 3rd world you do get very lean: it kind of gives you a "lowest practicable weight for your body", not a target to aim at. I'm 173cm/5'8".Originally posted by ratewhore View PostHow tall are you? 60kg for a 30 odd year old seems a bit light. It's your bodyfat %age you want to be concerned with, not your weight.
With standard rule-of-thumb calculation, 60kg would be a BMI of 20 or so, supposedly normal range. 90kg is BMI about 30, which is veering from overweight into obese. 70 kg would be good, 75kg OK; even 80 would be a good move.Comment

And there we have it. My father drinks about that much every day, and he got diabetes to go with the weight problem.Originally posted by expat View PostLook, if I want to make life not worth living, there are more interesting ways than sobriety.
OK, these days typically 3 beers and 3-6 glasses of wine a day (I am trying not to drink beer all the time).
Here's a tip: Save beer for the w/end. Replace with tea in the week.Bored.Comment

Find some healthy food/fruit you like - eat only that for lunch.Originally posted by expat View PostI absolutely hate doing sport or exercise of any kind. Also, I always feel pathologically short of time and can not bring myself to throw away much of it on an activity that seems to me no better than a penance.
Unfortunately I am very fond of food. Also I drink a lot, especially beer. I am rather bored with my everyday life and keep eating and drinking for something to do. I don't cook for myself (in this part of my life) and eat out more often than not, so I can't weigh and calculate intake.
What is the best way to lose weight?
That is a start.
You don't have to exercise to lose weight - you exercise to get fit.
To lose weight - just eat less and eat better.
It is easy - but a bit boring."Condoms should come with a free pack of earplugs."Comment
