Meta-study shows religious people are less intelligent
Deano wrote : And then God saying, well you were a git but it's my choice on whether I let you into heaven or not anyway. And because you believed in me and my son, and even though you were a git you at least tried to not be a git, so I'll let you into heaven.
That's not how it was explained to me.
I was told by a fundamental evangelist acquaintance I once knew that :
"After the fall of Man in the Garden of Eden, God was pi55ed off. Seriously. Because Man had disobeyed him. God decided to have nothing more to do with Mankind, seeing them as completely irredeemable.
Then Jesus came along, did his thing, and died for Man. Now here is the trick.
When you die, if it were left up to God, He'd ignore you and cast you aside. However, Jesus is the key. By believing in Jesus, he "shields" you from God's nastiness, and Jesus vouches for you to his Dad, and God says "Oh ok Son, if you say BGG is fine, then he can come in".
After that explanation, I've always believed that God is the Doorman from Hell, and Jesus is the well-connected pimp who can get you in to the Club.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

that's a new one!
"Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny. "
I think you only have to read this thread to see that the conclusion in the thread title is correct
But all the other threads on CUK suggest a large proportion of idiots here, regardless of religion - and certainly highlight the lack of relationship between intelligence and earnings
You know that Deano cannot answer your questions to your own satisfaction.
To his own, most probably and that's his choice.
Let's face it, he's the one that believes, and that's good enough for him.
Unless he is holding a gun to your head and asking you to believe as well, then why not leave him be ? He's happy, you're happy, everyone's happy.
I'm an athiest too, but athieism can also have its moments of frothing at the mouth and being just as unpleasant as can some of the religious extremists.
As athiests, we should just agree to differ and let the religious folks get on with their lives and beliefs.
Let's face it, if something did happen to change the scales and the burden of proof, I guarantee that as Athiests, we will be the FIRST to have knocks on our doors by the religious, keen to show us new evidence.
Until then, leave each man and woman be, for that way we can all get along.

Actually I'm not holding my breath for your answers - I know the believers MO is to ignore the hard questions.
Unbeliever: Why does bad stuff happen then?
Believer: God works in mysterious ways
this is the theological equivalent to saying 'Hey! Look over there!' <runs away>
