Granted but there are hundreds of oil tankers operating out there.

What other problem is common to the West, Iran, Arab countries, Russia, China and India? This one ought to be a given for international agreement on military action, they should go in there and blow the hell out of those ports and keep doing it until these attacks stop.

it's not ports though. They are parking hijacked ships in areas, sometimes going into random ports to do stuff. They are difficult to take out because of hostages, and, because they dont perform outrages, its difficult to get all het up and declare 'an axis of piracy'

I'm surprised that knowing the risks in that area the tanker didn't have a few crew members with guns for protection.

There's more risk of an explosion when the tankers are empty of oil.

After 6 years with BP, I should think so.
There is always a void in the tank header. this is combated by pumping in an inert gas, but explosions & fire are always a risk
