    guys guys calm down

why do you feel the need to explain SAP to these people.

The ones that we need to know what it is already know enough to hire us.

there is no reason to get worked up about this here.

Yes, there are some very good features. Never leading edge, it has to be said, but definitely improving.

Ahh - it was sarcasm. Good.

In answer to d000hg, SAP is a suite of products that purport to cover everything that a medium to large to very large company is likely to ever need to do, in a reasonably integrated way. It's seldom the best product for whatever job you want to do, but it's the integrated nature that is the main selling point. As Milan said - one vendor. There's no such thing as a SAP expert. SAP contractors are specialised in one or two specific areas of SAP - some more, some less technical than others. There's few large companies that don't have SAP somewhere in their organisation. And the pre-requisite for getting into SAP is having 2 years experience already... unless you're very very fortunate.

I learned BI on 7.0. Recently I did a 3.5 gig. DTPs and Transformations are nice - but still rather flakey.

I have no idea what you are talking about - I am on the security side and there is plenty of opportunity for client-co's to feel underskilled or they mess it up and need someone to help them clean the mess.

the bigger the company the bigger the mess

                BOOMED!

I could be busy even without looking at this new-fangled stuff.

You would not believe what I see sometimes.

                    Proper scary stuff.

Ok, so now that we've established that if you don't have a career in SAP now, you won't have one later, can someone explain to me what .Net really is?
