Theoretically, guys who use statistical processes to improve the efficiency of a company using the methods promoted by Deming. Whether 'tis bulltulip I don't know - but they should have some statistical training.

      Bulltulip, then?
Not had any first hand experience so couldn't comment objectively. Used by a lot of the Systems Integrators (read outsourcers) though. Draw your own conclusions I guess...

grrr had one of these guys tell me jfdi, when I couldnt get an ODBC connection to an Oracle database. He said 'anything is possible with a jfdi attitude'
So I says 'really, so If I throw you out of this tenth storey window , you could float safely to the ground using your jfdi attitude?' 'Some things are just not possible, now get me a userid and a fking password !'

I though that six sigma was something used in manufacturing its all about reducing the number of defects per million on a production line - Or am I incorrect?

I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this

Yes originally used in manufacturing and very successfully.
But now spread to any business process. I suspect in this context it's bulltulip.

Using the concept of 'Lean' and applying it to business processes that are non value add is just one application of the methodology. There are probably loads.

I met a Six Sigma contractor once. He introduced himself and then said, proudly:

                  'I am Six Sigma!'

                  What a douche bag.

That's what it says in the wikipedia page, and it's what they told me on my postgrad course. I knew about six sigma in manufacturing but I've never heard of 'lean six sigma black belts' in IT companies.
