Don't know if you have read this from MoneysavingExpert.com, it might provide you with some comfort.

Icesave. Icesave has opted for the ‘passport exemption’ to the UK compensation scheme. If it went bust, the first €20,000 would be paid by the Icelandic compensation scheme, the remainder of the £50,000 from the UK scheme. With the state of the Icelandic economy, many are questioning whether its compensation scheme can pay out.

STOP PRESS. Updated 12.15pm Wed 8 Oct. ALL Icesave money guaranteed by UK government.

Icesave is reported to have gone into technical receivership, meaning its assets have been taken over by the Icelandic government and it has effectively been nationalised (like Northern Rock was), see this FT article. It's likely it will be declared insolvent in the near future.

Crucially, this morning, Chancellor Alastair Darling said that ALL cash in Icesave will be guaranteed by the UK government i.e. not just the first £50k. This has now been confirmed by an official Treasury statement, including the following:

      • The UK authorities expect that Landsbanki will soon be declared in default. Should that occur, the Chancellor has put in place arrangements to ensure that no retail depositor will lose any money as a result of the closure of Icesave.

Does that mean Iceland belongs to Britain?

No one told me we were going shopping... what else looks good out there?

Yes have you got a spare room for Bjork?
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

This is very worrying, the Daily Mash appears to have changed from satire to reporting reality.

Will defo let you know if I hear anything. Doubt its worth ringing them they seem to know nothing, doubt they care either as most of them probably out of a job now. FSA website says just wait and they will contact you, its going to take a bit of time to get going though I recon.

**** me I'd be a bit more pro-active if I had £200K riding on this one.

Call them (on the phone, you know the thing people used before the Internet) and demand to know why your BACS was reversed and you'd like to have an official complaint on record. Ask about the legality of what has happened to you.

Then phone the BBC and give them your story.
