God I hope so I really do, his statement is a bit unclear though as to whether its just help to try and get the extra £ back or whether they will cover it. Even if I can get £100k back I would be happy.

The report on this mornings news seemed to suggest that this was only effective in relation to the 20k euro the Icelandic government are supposed to pay in their compensation scheme.

german chancellor merkel said something similar a few days ago, turns out that it was only a "politcal commitment" and not a total underwrite but they would see what they can do..

I certainly hope for anybody with >50k it means the lot - and it does seem as though it could. But the initial report I heard seemed to be in the context of the Icelandic government not meeting their obligations. As ever the devil will be in the detail.
