Z4 runs the same platform engine as the M3 straight six and 265 bhp from a 3.0 litre engine is not "tame", unless your daily run around is a lambo, in which case I bow to your BHP!

That's 88 bhp per litre, the s2000 has 120 bhp per litre

a better comparison on engine size would be the 2.2 litre which a megre 80 bhp per litre.

autocar testest the 2.2 0-60 as 7.7 secs, s takes 5.8

The S2000 was old tech when it came into distribution in 99 (Z4 hit production in 2003). since which the style, engine, electrics and so on have remained pretty much the same.

You show your ignorance, the s2000 engine was new, it won engine of the year for 4 years beating BMW et al. The 2.2 z4 engine was straight out of the bmw 3 series, while good, hardly ground breaking. The s2000 engine is not out of any other honda.

Plus I would worry about revving a 4 pot up to 9000 revs - alright if you have access to an engine rebuild every 10000 miles but if not...lots of fast whirring machinery...

There have been no Vtrec engine failures . The s2000 was JD power number 1 for customer satisfaction and reiability for 3 years on the run.


Don't get me wrong the Z4 isn't bad, it's just not as good.

The non 4 wheel drive only goes sideways from the front of the car as it understeers watch them drift on a roundabout. It's not a sports car it's a golf in a dress. New one is much better apparently but still had FWD!

Sports cars are rear wheel drive.

The z4 is too tame, build quality isn't the best as it's built in the US and they can't build cars.

The s2000 is wild when you wind it up or civilised if you don't. Servicing is cheap, less than a ford Ka, remarkable considering the complexity of the mechanics and the simplicity of the KA. Which shows you how much some other brands rip you off. Other plus points are

- residuals on the s2000 are better than the z4.
- road tax banding is below the high rate


If not wanting too spend too much, the MR2 roadster is a bags of fun. Think of it as an Elise with build quality (lotus now use the MR2 engine). It also hits 30 faster than a Porsche Boxster.

The MX5 is OK but not my cup of tea.



PS I have a very nice s2000 for sale 26k miles immaculate.

TVR .. fall to bits and probably too impractical (speed humps)

Porsche made a mistake with the Cayman by making it too good, although it's not as pretty as the 911.
