I've now carefully studied each of the seven £1 coins in my wallet, and one of them looks a bit dodgy. They all have the correct dates/pictures (thanks NF) and they are all lined up the right way on both sides but one of them has a a very suspect looking "Decus et Tutamen" and the picture is not quite centered. It also has a different picture of the Queen on it.

I'll have to save it to use to pay my Council Tax.

Hmm good point. I could donate it to the Labour party instead and hope they get prosecuted for trying to spend it. Who knows I might even get an OBE.

Any other suggestions on how to dispose of it?

          There are three different pictures of the Queen: 1983 - 84, 1985 - 97, and 1998 - present.

The post 1998 one - is that where she hangs her head in shame at the state of the UK?

With a family like hers, she's hardly in a position to complain about the state of the nation

I live in Hertfordshire, and it's getting to be boring, now, waiting for the shopkeepers to carry out their myriad checks on £20 notes. Last time, the sales girl rubbed a pen over it, scanned it, held it up to the light, and finally, after still being unsure, called over a lad who was filling his paper round satchel to have a butcher's. Luckily the 14 year old's unquestionable ability to discern a fake from a good 'un meant that I could buy my goods!

Never! But then I did not check - I just paid for goods at my local boots.....

How did you know? What did you do about it?
