When the tax rises under Major were piled on top of Maggie's tax increases we'd already had at least 12 years of Tory government - so how could they have been due to the previous Labour government?


    Of course there are other reasons to raise taxes, but what I am saying is that as sure as night follows day, a Labour government leaves a legacy of debt, waste and mismanagement for an incoming Tory government. This will happen yet again in 2010, probably necessitating tax rises.
