Like many, I thought New Labour would do what it said it would at the start, though I voted Tory: after all, they had inherited a thriving economy, had the Public's mandate, and really should have been able to do a decent job. But they pissed on everyone's chips and now we're in a recession.

NL are so pants that they produced a world-wide recession?

Except I don't. Unlike Cybertory and the other Tory automatons on here, I don't slavishly support one party.

I'm very happy that the Cabinet can't directly fart about with the Bank of England base rates any more.

It's also arguable that the Global economy is entering recession is that all down to our current Government?

Please understand that I don't personally support any party as I find all party politics to be corrupt, despicable and utterly contemptible.

I agree, but the country NEEDS a cut immediately of 1% to get things moving. A strong government would do it. Unfortunately it would mean a U-turn from Brown, but his pride will not allow it.

The Tories had returned UK PLC to growth for about a year before New Lie came to power promising no tax rises. Unfortunately in over 50 years on this earth, I have never seen New Lie/Labour ever leave office with the country in a growth phase.
The Tories for their sins at least have a good track record on the economy (barring the ERM which New Lie also would have joined at the time), which the current incumbents obviously cannot match. Taxes are always too high under left wing government and the true cost of these policies are showing, as there is now simply not enough room to manouvre to cut taxes. That's why we need an immediate big cut in interest rates of I% IMO.

Nothing will ever convince me that high taxes are the answer to everything, but voting for New Lie is advocating that policy. Taxes eventually drive out the will for people to try to succeed by their own efforts. Hence all of income tax is now spent on the welfare state, almost 200 Billion per annum !!

It's true taxes are too high; if it carries on we'll back to Thatcherite levels.

Civil Contingencies Act 2004 has been called "Blair's Enabling Act" as it has been compaired to Hitler's Enabling Act of 1933
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.
