Boom and bust Under the Tories late 80s early 90s
Boom and bust under Labour late 90s late 00s

The only difference this time is the boom has lasted longer and so will the bust.

We've had 20 years of government unable to run the economy on an even keel.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Admittedly the governments of the '70's were even worse with some spectacular cockups irrespective of their rosette colours.

I think on balance that our system of majority parliament government has been well tried and tested over decades and been found to be badly incapable of doing a good job.

Taxes are far too high under New Lie. They should have been reducing tax in the boom times while the revenues were good. Thatcher raised taxes out of necessity after the usual Labour spending boom to fill the usual black hole. Now we will be in a similar scenario in 2010. It's scandalous the way Labour totally mismanage the economy and leave a complete mess for the Tories yet again.

Indeed, but some Tory in-breed will be along soon to claim that Tory governments have always been faultless brave and noble and never make any errors wheras Labour ones always kill people's first born kids and charge 2 billion percent income tax.

The Tories have made errors but the difference is that they have the intelligence and determination to rectify them. New Lie never do. The Tories will pick up the pieces yet again unfortunately, but rest assured that they will return the economy to stability.

I have asked you this before though and not had an answer - what incompetent handling of the economy explains the Major tax rises in the early 1990s ?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the pre Major governments were the Thatcher ones weren't they?

Exactly. So that mantra about the Tories only ever putting up taxes to sort out a previous Labour mess can't apply. When the tax rises under Major were piled on top of Maggie's tax increases we'd already had at least 12 years of Tory government - so how could they have been due to the previous Labour government?
